Burdwan Harisava Hindu Girls’ High School was founded on January 24, 1934, and was located at R.B. Ghosh Road, ShyamSayar South, Khosbagan, Burdwan, by a distinguished barrister of the time, Sri Lalit Mohan Bhattacharyya, with the help of the four distinguished, generous, religious, and cultural icons of the period that included Sri Lakshman Chatterjee, Sri Shyamacharan Bhattacharyya, Sri Basanta Maitra and Sri Pramatha Nath Dey.

The School became a ‘High School’ (up to class X) on 1st January 1949, as it was accorded the recognition to the status by Calcutta University. The School was, then, upgraded to the status of a‘Higher Secondary School’ in 1966, with the authority to begin the teaching of Arts and Commerce. Next year, i. e. in 1967, the Science teaching up to that level was started. The formal recognition of the School as a Higher Secondary one was granted on May 21, 1976 by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

At present, the Burdwan Harisava Hindu Girls’ School has approximately 1700 students, drawn from both, the Madhyamik and the Higher Secondary sections. It has rich infrastructural facilities that include a rich library with reading room, good laboratories of different science faculties including Nutrition and Geography and a well-furnished computer room.
