This college is known for catering best education since the year 1962. J. D. Birla Institute (JDBI) is an independent college in Kolkata. It is affiliated to Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The original name of JDBI – Kolkata is Smt. Jawahari Devi Birla Institute of Home Science. It is named after the mother-in-law of late Sushila Devi Birla, wife of eminent industrialist late L. N. Birla, and the founder of this college. The College was specially started to cater education to the young women from Kolkata’s conservative families.
It has been accredited with an ‘A’ Grade (CGPA of 3.61) on four point scale by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an Autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission and is recognized as a centre with Potential for Excellence. The college has been awarded the %u2018College to look out for%u2019 and the %u2018Best Maintained College%u2019 by the Lions Club of Calcutta.
